Pardon Jason Kidd if he flexes. He won't admit it, but he's proud of himself and the Dallas Mavericks' NBA Finals run.
Few believed they would, and if they did, more believed Kidd wouldn't be on the sidelines leading this club to a strong playoff run.
Despite leading Dallas to the Western Conference finals in 2022, he was considered a controversial figure.
“Everybody’s gonna change their tune or tone or to say I am the one [to lead],” Kidd told Yahoo Sports on Thursday night after the Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the Western Conference playoffs.
Build something is my job. This quick item is popular. Not happening. Championship teams don't form overnight."
Kidd keeps his teammates on edge by telling them they're the underdogs despite their remarkable run to the Finals.
“We like the underdog role, we have to be,” Kidd said. Boston has been there. Some think we're just a gang of guys that got together and will play on the playground.
It's fantastic to watch this bunch come together and believe so quickly, and we have great young men.”
