How Bibliotherapy Helped Me Manage My PTSD

After more than 22 years in the fire service, I developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sought treatment for my anxiety, depression,

PTSD through a variety of "alternative" therapies, including massage, acupuncture, herbal remedies, meditation, and hot yoga.

To this day, I manage my post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with a combination of these strategies, as well as regular exercise,

a balanced diet, supportive friends and family, and a modest amount of medication.

What follows is an account of my work with spiritual healing and bibliotherapy, two approaches that have shown to be quite beneficial to me.

After going to the emergency room at 32 years old for chest pain, I realized I needed to work on my stress management

Back then, I worked as a paramedic at a bustling firehouse.

Every day, I spoke with a large number of folks who were experiencing heart issues.
