Following the announcement that Taylor Swift was named Time's 2023 Person of the Year, readers have been searching online for hard copy copies of the publication. It turns out there's a lot of demand.
In one, she's dressed in a tan jacket and denim shirt; in another, she's wearing a gray dress adorned with beads; and in a third, she's carrying Benjamin Button, one of her pet cats, on her shoulders.
As of December 13, 238,808 physical copies of the magazine had been preordered online, a Time representative tells Yahoo Entertainment.
When the magazine went on sale on December 15, it had the singer on three different covers:
Newsstand sales, which "are on track to be up 133%" in the United States alone, are not included in that figure.
Only Time's May 2011 issue, which included news of Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding and sold 232,000 copies both online and at newsstands, has sold as many copies as this one in the magazine's recent history.
In contrast, the Person of the Year issue for 2022 featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sold a total of 65,000 physical copies through newsstand and online sales combined.
Online preorders totaling 63,926 bundles—a single purchase that includes all three covers—have been placed, according to Time data.
