Never late: Miss Texas USA's oldest contestant is 71.

A 71-year-old woman became Miss Texas USA's oldest contestant.

Marissa Teijo competed in the pageant this weekend in Houston, but she did not win.

Last year's Miss Dallas, Aarieanna Ware, was named Miss Texas USA on Saturday. She will represent Texas in Miss USA.

The Miss Universe organization has removed age limits for contestants over 18 and allowed married, divorced, and pregnant women.

El Paso native Teijo announced on Instagram that she is passionate about the competition and hopes it will "encourage women to be their best physically and mentally and to believe there is beauty at every age."

The Miss Universe organization has been in dispute since Noelia Voigt resigned on May 6.

Voight, 24, announced on Instagram that he was leaving the company to focus on his mental health, but his resignation letter reached NBC News the next day, accusing CEO Leila Rose of creating a toxic work environment and failing. about bullying.

Rose said she takes claims seriously and “the well-being of all individuals associated with Miss USA is my top priority.”
