Taylor Swift World Tour Without India Concerts. The Reason
Taylor Swift is a worldwide superstar singer-songwriter with a huge fan base in India.
Six Singapore gigs and none in India were announced for her global Eras Tour. The cause: A Singapore government-concert promoter arrangement.
Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin recently claimed that concert promoter Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) warned him Taylor Swift could not play in Southeast Asia during the tour.
Mr. Thavisin said AEG informed him that the Singapore government had signed an exclusive arrangement with Taylor Swift to host the tour in Southeast Asia for $2 million to $3 million per event.
Swift's Eras Tour, her largest ever, grossed $1 billion with 151 gigs on five continents.
Singapore appears to be the only Southeast Asian destination for the global musical sensation, with six sold-out gigs at the National Stadium in March.
Prime Minister Thavisin expressed regret on behalf of Thai fans, saying staging the performance in Thailand would have been cheaper and attracted more sponsors and tourists.
"The Singapore government is astute," Prime Minister Thavisin said of Singapore's strategy to land the high-profile tour.
