After a successful first two seasons, Yellowstone gained popularity in season three, but it wasn't enough to retain Kevin Costner.
Season five part one began in November 2022, and much has happened since. Costner departed the show to finish his passion project, Horizon:

In season five, Beth and Jamie clash over Jamie's call for John's impeachment, leaving the ranch and Dutton family's future in limbo. Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, hopes the series resolves this.
Bentley told The Hollywood Reporter last year, “Obviously, I’m not the writer. Jamie has tremendous potentials as a viewer.
He descends with John? Because of Jamie, does John fall? Do you think Jamie is involved or trying to protect him? Jamie is hard to read, he said. "There are many ways he handles John's ending."
